Patrice Evra says it will be “normal” if Manchester United triumph over City in the derby on Wednesday.

United go into the game at Eastlands with a three-point lead over City, despite the visitors having spent more than £250 million on players since the 2008 takeover, and Evra has no doubt that United still reign supreme.

“They always say that [they are bigger than us] and they never beat us,” he said. “If we win it’s a good result for Manchester United, but it will be normal – it will not be so special.

“We need to win every game now. We don’t just need to win against City – we are looking to win the league. When we start the season we think about winning every game.

“I can say it would be nice to beat City because it’s a special game. It’s the derby and everyone wants to win, but it’s not the priority. The priority is to win the league but make sure we don’t lose the derby.”

Meanwhile, Carlos Tevez has said he is disappointed Wayne Rooney did not follow him to Eastlands.

Rooney had been strongly linked with a move to City after he confirmed he wanted to leave United due to the club’s failure to bring in quality, established players, but he then signed a new long-term deal at Old Trafford.

“I would have liked him to come here of course, but it was complicated for him to leave United,” Tevez said. “Wayne is a player of great quality.

“He was a team-mate and a friend of mine at United and he is one of those men that it is better to have on your team than against you.

“For me he is the best English striker of recent years. I made the change and so far I’m not sorry.”
